The Market at Flora Farms San Jose del Cabo, MX March 2022 What can we put in our bodies to reduce the toxic burden in our bodies? The billion dollar health food industry LOVES to sell “detox kits” but how many of us actually stick to the program? I am not one for rules so I would rather just do a gentle daily cleanse most of the time but I will throw in a 48 hr fast here and there to just clean things out. Did you know there are certain foods that can help rid your body of toxins and bacteria that can accumulate in the body and cause all kinds of havoc with your health? Here are some of my favorites! Garlic - seriously one of the best things to include in your diet every single day! Garlic contains allicin which is the amazing compound known for being anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, and is an antioxidant. Garlic has the ability to regulate the formation of fat cells so it's a great weight loss food as well so this is something we should eat or take in a supplement form every single day as a natural detoxification food. When I traveled to Sanoviv Medical Institute in Rosarito, MX to earn a Certified Nutritional Advisor Certificate they had a big bowl of raw, peeled garlic cloves and a garlic press at the end of the buffet where you were to crush garlic on your food every single time. Eating a clove or two of raw garlic can do wonders for the digestive and circulatory systems! As you can imagine the entire institute smelled of garlic, everyone smelled of garlic but in a place where they are healing disease I think following what they do is a good idea! Give it a try! Cilantro - I am in Mexico right now so this one seems perfect though it seems to be a love or hate type of herb but we should learn to LOVE cilantro, especially if you eat a lot of seafood. Cilantro as it helps move heavy metal toxins such as lead or aluminum from the deepest parts of the body and puts them back into the bloodstream to be flushed out. With cilantro’s nutrient rich makeup it has been known to regulate the heart rate and stabilize blood pressure, lower bad cholesterol, protect the liver and kidneys while squashing free radicals and neutralizing oxidative stress! In a world where Mexican cuisine is so popular and where it grows in people’s herb gardens and window sills so easily this is one to to keep on hand! Cilantro is actually the Spanish word for coriander leaves, which also means coriander seeds can also be used as a natural detox food. Cilantro can make any meal come to life! It’s a fresh tasting herb that can jazz up any salsa, even store bought, or try mixing in a smoothie for a fresh taste. This is a DEEP green cleansing food that once you start incorporating it daily you will wonder how you ever survived without it! Berries - fresh berries are very high in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber! Did you know raspberries are amazing for fiber and fiber improves digestion, which improves elimination, which we need to rid our bodies of toxins so eat your berries every day! This is an easy one to incorporate every day! The key is to buy them either organic or soak them in a vinegar water solution for 15 min and rinse, mix with a smoothie and just make a point of having it every day! Three things that are super simple, easy things to add to your daily routine but I want to add one more! Water with lemon - our bodies need a constant supply of clean, fresh water to flush out toxins daily so always carry a water bottle with you and keep yourself hydrated! Start your day with 1/2 lemon squeezed into water with a dash of cayenne and then wait 30 min before eating anything else. It's such a great kickstart to detoxifying your liver! Thank you for following my journey to writing a book series!
Stay balanced, LeeAnna
