Sipping Peach Green Teas Halifax, NS Aug 2021 Welcome to my new life travelling the world while writing a book series! This is my first ever BLOG and the official start of my writing career! Thank you SO much for following along in my journey to writing a book series! I came to the east coast of Canada first because I had never been to Halifax and PEI and I LOVE seafood so here I am and the food is amazing! BUT, I have realized very quickly how easy it was to get caught up in the “vacation mode”. I knew I didn’t want to go down that path of indulging too much since this was going to be my new life, travelling and getting to experience amazing food and drinks around the world. I had to come up with a plan pretty fast on how I was going to have control over my day. Here are some tips on how I figured out the best way to maintain balance while travelling: Sunrise in PEI Aug 2021 Walking on the beach is the best grounding activity! Get outside as soon as you wake up and WALK Get out and walk as soon as you wake up, don’t think too much, just get dressed and get out of your hotel room or home and move!! It’s amazing how the fresh air gets you going and you may even find yourself hitting the gym after and “heaven forbid” you may even EXERCISE more than you anticipated! The famous "lobster roll" at Prince Water St Cafe Charlottetown, PEI Aug 2021 Wait to eat breakfast Who says we need to eat as soon as we wake up? Waiting to "break your fast" or have breakfast until you are really hungry gives your body a chance to burn up stored FAT as energy! Unless you have very low body fat 6-15% you have stored fat to use up! Break your fast with something light such as Greek yogurt or just wait until lunchtime to have your first meal. If you plan on eating carbs like bread, the middle of the day is the best time as you still have the rest of the day to burn off that extra glucose "sugar" energy! Lobster Roll Caesar's - I had to try! The Cork & Cast, Charlottetown, PEI Aug 2021 Try to limit the alcohol Oh to drink or not to drink? Alcohol is just not good for us but if if you are going to drink then make good choices! I have always called Caesars "appetizers in a glass" and this one above fits the bill! It was like a meal. Speaking of food, if you choose to drink then EAT food with your drinks. You do not want the alcohol to go straight to your bloodstream so make sure you have some food in your stomach! Also, stick to alcohols that have some health benefits like red wine, cognac and try to stick to a 2 drink per day maximum! It's all about balance! Chef Michael Smith - Inn at Bay Fortune Farm, Fire & Feast Experience Prince Edward Island Aug 2021 Enjoy the delicious food but think about portion control! The MAIN reason for coming to PEI was to see Chef Michael Smith at his Inn at Bay Fortune for his infamous Farm, Fire & Feast Experience and WOW was that an experience! That night there was NO portion control happening at all. We had so many oysters during oyster hour, bread, soup, salads, mains, dessert and wine with everything! This will have to be a whole other blog it was SO good. To have evenings like that are great but it is all about balance and life is meant to be enjoyed, food is part of that so eat it! Our Farm, Fire & Feast event started at 4pm! It's good to eat early! Eat early I like to follow an intermittent style of eating. I tend to skip breakfast and eat between 12-4pm or 12-6pm or some days 2pm-7pm, you get the idea. I like to have a 16-18hr window of fasting which does wonders for maintaining your weight! Plus the best part is the best restaurants are usually empty right at opening which usually is about 4-5pm so you have a better chance of getting a reservation when travelling to busy destinations! If you eat early you will find you have time to walk around and burn off the carbs that give you quick energy and they will be less likely to end up as fat deposits on your body. It’s a win win! So give it a try on your next vacation or better yet, start this at home, bet you will lose some weight if you give it a couple of weeks! What do you have to lose other than a few pounds?? Thanks for following my journey to writing a book series!
Stay balanced, LeeAnna
