SO what do we all like to do when travelling? EAT of course! This has been the biggest challenge for me! I love food!! All kinds of food, especially fresh, local food and I love pairing it with wine. What I find that works is intermittent fasting. I only eat in a certain window AND did you know it doesn't always need to be the same window. Tip #1 - Eat in your window! So what “windows'' am I referring to too? The window depends on your life, are you in a school system or job that has you eating at scheduled times? Are you a shift worker and your times can change every other week? I’ll share what works for me and a lot of my clients. Start with an 8hr window so eat from 10-6pm, then shave off an hour when you feel you can. I am down to a 4-5hr window. Sometimes I eat 12-4, 1-5 or even 2-7 etc, the window can change but the point is to give your body a rest, a break to do more than just digest food. It’s not as hard as you may think and once you do it for a while you will find you are not even hungry in the morning. Your body is just running off fat energy and you think clearer and have more energy! It’s truly amazing! #2 Break your fast gently, I'm having some nuts and honey in Croatia Tip #2 - Break your fast gently and try to eat when you are hungry! Not because its supposed to be “breakfast” Start with some greek yogurt for protein, maybe add some nuts! I like to eat the local honey in whatever country I’m in and you haven’t lived until you mix honey in plain greek yogurt!! It will take the bitter right out of the yogurt! I usually have something small around 12-1pm then I will snack on something like a few nuts then have my main meal around 4pm, then maybe a little snack after my main meal before I end the eating window. Since I’ve been in France and the custom is to have a cheese plate after you eat I’ve been having that. Thank goodness cheese is keto friendly! #3 Tip - SHARE YOUR FOOD - Zagreb, Croatia and check out this burger! Tip #3 - Share your food! You DO NOT need to eat as much as you think you do! Protein and healthy fat is number one followed by vegetables! If you are struggling with weight or digestion I honestly can't recommend intermittent fasting enough and eating LESS food! Even if you don't completely change your eating habits and just eat in a certain window with less food, your digestion will thank you. Portion control is key! #4 Tip - Eat some roughage! Salad will fill you up! Brac Island, Croatia Tip #4 - Get some fiber in your body! Foods that are nutrient dense and filling! Lots of things fit the bill here, eggs, animal protein, soups and salads! Broccoli and all cruciferous vegetables are amazing vegetables so think stir frys as well! #5 Tip - If you enjoy a dessert, make is a one bit dessert - Eksted Restaurant, London, UK Tip #5 - if you choose to have dessert make it a one bit dessert. You just need a little taste to get that satisfying end to a meal. Better yet only have dessert on special occasions. It’s best to leave the sugar off the table, once you have it your body wants it. See, its not hard to follow IF! I urge you to give intermittent fasting a go! If your window is 12 hrs to start as least its better than eating at 7am to 10pm which is a 15hr window which is very common! Give it 2-4wks to see some real results! Good Luck! Thank you following my journey to writing a book series! Stay balanced, LeeAnna Brac Island, Croatia
