Hennessy Cognac House, Cognac, France 2022 You could literally SMELL the cognac in the air! To drink or not to drink? That has been a question I get often! In a perfect world we wouldn’t drink alcohol but if you are going to drink at least drink the alcohol that will benefit you more than harm you! I touched on the health benefits of Cognac on Intagram, specifically the XO a 10yr aged cognac but I have come up with some ideas for you as I also LOVE cognac, wine and socializing. Here are a couple of my tips when it comes to drinking alcohol. Sampling Hennessay XO Cognac High antioxidant, one of the best for health! Price tag - $348.99 for a 750ml bottle (BC Liquor website) Drink the best you can afford! - Here's a perspective. You can buy the cheap dog food or the expensive dog food, the cheap dog food is full of fillers, the expensive dog food is full of real protein and even some vegetables and other holistic goodness. SAME THING WITH ALCOHOL!! BUY THE BEST YOU CAN AFFORD Someone told me once that "life is too short to drink shitty wine" I'm going to live by that saying! Generally, premium alcohol is full of antioxidants and health benefits so buy the best red wine (antioxidants) and the best Cognac (surprising heart benefits) and for an after dinner “digestif” did you know Jaegermeister is one of the best as it is infused with herbs, spices, bark and more specifically intended to aid digestion. Love Greece for their after dinner "digestif" samples! Naxos, Greece 2021 LIMIT your consumption - this is obvious but I had to say it! Just slow down and enjoy your alcohol, pair your wine with food, enjoy a cognac or digestif drink after dinner but stay away from the alcohols that do not serve any purpose such as beer and sugar laden cocktails. This is how it's done - Lobster Roll Caesars! Charlottetown, PEI Canada 2021 EAT to absorb your alcohol! It’s really the only way to control the speed of how the alcohol enters your bloodstream. When there is no food in your system the alcohol is absorbed by your stomach to an extent but then goes straight to your small intestine where it is absorbed into your bloodstream super quick. It’s just bad news to drink on an empty stomach so don’t do it! Santorini, Greece 2021 Going for wine tastings is one of my favourite "hobbies" Just sip and share your tastings if you are going with someone! Enjoy wine? We are all familiar with the fact that red wine has antioxidants but you can get those from food, not just red wine so if you are on a low carb or keto diet - red / white wine have roughly 3-4 grams. The hard alcohols such as rum, vodka, gin, tequila and whisky all have 0 carbs just be sure to mix with a 0 carb seltzer water. My girls, Halle & Chyanne love their cocktails! Flora Farms, San Jose del Cabo, MX 2022 Avoid these drinks AT ALL COSTS! COCKTAILS Cocktails are the absolute worst for your diet. They are high carbohydrate, the simple kind that turns straight to sugar! Check out the following: Pina Colada 32g, Sangria 27g, Cosmo 22g, Whisky Sour 14g (that is a sneaky one!!), Margarita 13g, Regular Beer 12g followed by a Caesar or Bloody Mary 10g So make good choices and you can still have a drink and maintain a healthy lifestyle! Thank you for following my journey to writing a book series!
Stay balanced, LeeAnna
